A dedicated advocate for mental health and problem gambling awareness, Dr. Silakhone Douangkesone serves as vice president of the Arkansas Problem Gambling Council (ARPG Council), where he focuses on problem gambling awareness and intervention. He played a role in establishing the ARPG Council alongside Vena M. Schexnayder, MSW, CSAC-A, helping to develop its advocacy and support efforts. Dr. Silakhone Douangkesone was involved in organizing events such as the 2022 ARPG “Better Together” Problem Gambling Symposium and the March Madness for Mental Health Advocates Dinner to promote community engagement and awareness.
Dr. Douangkesone has dedicated his career to problem gambling prevention, awareness, treatment, and public policy. His expertise extends to strategic development, digital marketing, and government relations. His efforts contributed to the ARPG Council’s membership in the National Council on Problem Gambling. He also supports peer intervention programs for individuals affected by gambling addiction.
An alumnus of the University of Arkansas, Dr. Douangkesone remains connected to his alma mater and follows Razorbacks football and basketball. In 2011, HIPPY Arkansas recognized him for medical services provided to preschool children. In his work with the ARPG Council, he continues to focus on community advocacy and mental health initiatives.
